Bhupathi wants to extend IPTL till 2020

To be honest… chapeau to Mahesh Bhupathi.

The IPTL CEO (and great double player) has managed to create this International Premier League out of nothing and it’s probably going to be a great (and quirky) success.

Mahesh Bhupathi managed to get on board huge personalities such as Federer, Djokovic, Murray, Sharapova, Serena Williams, Sampras and Agassi. Nadal was also part of the pack, but he had to withdraw for “health concerns”.

From Bhupathi

We’ve created this exciting format and they’ll hopefully schedule us along with the four slams and they can work around it. People say that the season is long but we’re creating something that is exciting enough for them to come so that they’ll automatically schedule us.”

Mahesh is “super-confident” and he wants to extend the concept till 2020 where he would like to have 8 teams (franchise) “There’s a lot of intrigue, there’s a lot of excitement, there’s a lot of scepticism. Obviously we feel like the format should work… we’ve made it time-sensitive and got our fingers crossed. The sceptics have been there for the last two years, and now they’re like, ‘It’s actually happening’. Let’s see what they say about the season.”

Let’s see how it will go… but this is interesting… isn’t it?
