Stefanos Tsitsipas is about to compete against Jordan Thompson in the first round at Indian Wells. Speaking to the press right before the tournament, Stefanos explained why he is so happy about his partnership with coach Mark Philippoussis.
Stefanos revealed: “Mark is a very wise man, he has a lot of knowledge. I think the fact that he’s lived these things himself on the tour and he’s able to provide some [advice] to me now is essential. He provides a lot of feedback. He can relate to a lot of things that have happened to me and sees a little bit of himself in me in some circumstances and situations.
I very much enjoy this relationship that the two of us have. There’s so much compatibility in terms of team chemistry but also our philosophy behind the tennis we’re trying to pursue.”

Ranked world no.3 (career-high), Stefanos played his last match on the 16th of February when he capitulated to world no.13 Jannik Sinner 6-4 6-3 in the 2nd round in Rotterdam (draw).
This year Tsitsipas achieved a 13-2 record. Stefanos Tsitsipas’s most significant achievement of the current season was reaching the final at the Australian Open.
Tsitsipas is scheduled to play next in Miami (Miami Open). He will start from the main draw that will commence on the 22nd of March.
Thompson in Indian Wells, ranking, and results in 2023
Now ranked no.87, Thompson has managed to achieve a 8-5 win-loss record in 2023. The Australian is now having a run in Indian Wells where he beat the world no.210 Gael Monfils 6-3 6-1.
Jordan Thompson will square off with the world no.3 Stefanos Tsitsipas in the 2nd round on Friday at 1:30 pm on STADIUM 1. Their head to head is 2-0 for Tsitsipas.
Thompson has won 1 title in 2023 in the Rome Challenger.
Thompson is expected to play next in Miami (Miami Open). He is currently an alternate. The main draw will start on the 22nd of March.
