Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic have been racing for the past few months for the world’s number 1 rank. After winning the Australian Open, Djokovic regained the top spot in the rankings dethroning Alcaraz, but he can lose it again if the young Spaniard conquers the title in Indian Wells. Carlito has been battling with a leg injury that prevented him from competing in Acapulco. Fortunately, he announced that he has recovered and he is also ready to have a good run in Indian Wells.
“I’m really good right now. Today was the first practice that I practised with some players, [played] some points. I feel great. I took some days off and it was really good for me. Right now I’m ready,” said Alcaraz.
About becoming world no.1
Talking about winning both Indian Wells and Miami, Carlito added:
“It’s a really good goal for me. Of course playing a Masters 1000 is always tough and I really want to have a good result here. I love this tournament as well. For me, winning the tournament and being No. 1 again is a really good goal and I really want to go for it.”

At the moment ranked no.2, the Spaniard played his last contest on the 26th of February when he lost to world no.12 Cameron Norrie 5-7 6-4 7-5 in the final in Rio De Janeiro (draw).
Currently, during this season Carlos achieved a 8-1 record. This year, the Spaniard lifted the trophy in Buenos Aires. Carlos got to the final in Rio de Janeiro.
Alcaraz has scheduled to compete next in Miami (Miami Open). He will start the tournament from the main draw that will commence on the 22nd of March.
Novak Djokovic in 2023
Now the world no.1, Novak played his last match on the 3rd of March when he capitulated to world no.6 Daniil Medvedev 6-4 6-4 in the semifinal in Dubai (draw).
Currently, during this year Novak achieved a 15-1 record. The Serbian clinched 2 titles in 2023 in Adelaide and Australian Open.
Djokovic is scheduled to play next in Miami (Miami Open). He will start the tournament from the main draw that will commence on the 22nd of March.
Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic played each other only once. Their current record is 1-0 for Alcaraz. When they played, Carlos Alcaraz won 6-7(5) 7-5 7-6(5) in the semifinal in Madrid (Mutua Madrid Open) in May 2022.
