John McEnroe loves people with a personality (well… like him) and he sees Kyrgios as the one to fill the current gap.
The American Legend can’t see people with an attitude at the top and Kyrgios may fill this gap in the near future.
McEnroe: Nick is my pick…
During a recent interview John said “If I had to pick one guy in the world under 22 who has the greatest chance of making the biggest impact, it’s Nick.
“The improvement he made from when I saw him a couple of years ago to what I saw playing Nadal … I thought, ‘Oh my God, this guy has made an incredible improvement. We haven’t heard a lot from him for the last few months and that’s not a bad thing. The upside is tremendous, it’s incredible.”

John added some interesting comment on Kyrgios personality “Nick is someone who just brings it. In a one-on-one sport, I think that is extremely important. When you see personality and fire in someone you want to rally behind that person. Nadal plays with a lot of fire and Djokovic does as well. Roger is more like our version of Bjorn Borg.I would love to see a guy with some real personality step up to the plate.”
Kyrgios is now ranked no.52, a great improvement from the beginning of the year (n.182). In 2014 Nick has won 3 challengers (Sarasota, Savannah and Nottingham 2). The Australian has reached the quarters in Wimbledon after defeating Richard Gasquet in a thrilling 5 setter coming back from 2 sets down (3-6 6-7 (4) 6-4 7-5 10-8) and Nadal in the 4h round.
