Roger Federer and Ivan Ljubicic have always enjoyed a fantastic relationship, but that represented a bit of a “problem” at the beginning of their coaching partnership.
Why it was weird coaching Federer
In an interview with the Croatian TV “HRT” during the Davis Cup finals, Ivan confessed that he had to adapt how he was relating with Roger because “We had a friendly relationship before, which later became a normal coach-player relationship. I do not see him as an icon, I see Roger as a friend.”

At the beginning of the year, Roger conceded that he was very happy about Ljubicic to say “He fits in very well. He was already friends with everyone before we started working together, which was certainly helpful.”
Under Ljubicic guidance, Federer has won already 3 slams. Yes, this is quite a good partnership!
