Yannick Noah disgusted with ITF President for destroying the Davis Cup

The Frenchman didn't hide his disappointment for the destiny (or the end) of the Davis Cup

RIP Davis Cup

Yannick Noah is among the tennis players and coach that feel the pathos of the Davis Cup the most. The French Legend led his nation to win the Davis Cup in 1991, 1996 and in 2016 and he showed his affection for the competition during this year’s final when he wasn’t able to hold his tears during the national anthem.

Unfortunately, as many maintain, the Davis Cup is dead after the format was sold to the investment group Kosmos.

The New Format

As per the Davis Cup website, this will be the format.

“Under the plans, the World Cup of Tennis Finals will be played over seven days in November in the traditional week of the Davis Cup Final.

The Finals will feature a round-robin format followed by a quarterfinal knockout stage.

Each tie will consist of two singles and one doubles over best-of-three sets.

The 16 World Group nations will automatically qualify for the Finals, and a further two nations will be selected.”

Noah disgusted

After losing the “last” Davis Cup final, Noah released the following comments to the reporters

“I said I’m disgusted and upset to his face [tyhe ITF President that sold the format]. It’s the truth. It’s the way I feel.

Everyone has a right to feel differently but I feel I owe the Davis Cup because it means so much to me as a player, as a spectator.

We have people who have decided it doesn’t matter, I don’t know if they don’t know, or they don’t care. But as I told the president I’m not from his world. When people tell us it’s still going to be the Davis Cup, they are lying.

We talk about money but how much is it worth for the ball boy, who is from here, to shake the hand of Lucas Pouille and have a picture with him?

How much is that worth? How much is the dream in dollars? This will never happen again.”
