Carlos Alcaraz gives worrying injury updates and playing in Acapulco is not a given

Carlos Alcaraz revealed that his injury is the same one that prevented him from playing the Australian Open.

Carlos Alcaraz Injury

In the wake of his Sunday loss to Cameron Norrie in the 2023 Rio Open final, Carlos Alcaraz has discussed an injury scare that plagued him (February 26).

The number one seed appeared to be on track to win Rio de Janeiro twice when he led Norrie 7-5, 3-0, 30-0. Alcaraz’s right leg, which he had bandaged, started to bother him at that point, though it was obvious that it affected his movement, particularly his serve. After the match, Alcaraz conceded that he believes his injury is the same one that prevented him from playing the Australian Open.

The world no.2 revealed: “The schedule is very demanding. I have been playing at the highest level for 15 days, without stopping for any day. In the end, playing games like today, discomfort arises, and you notice things. To prevent, you ask for the physio and they bandage your leg, but I felt pain in the same muscle where I had the injury last month. It’s hard. I have tried to play at my best level despite that setback.”

Will Alcaraz play in Acapulco?

In theory, Carlos Alcaraz is supposed to play in Acapulco this week, where he is seeded number 1. Nevertheless, it is plausible that he will decide not to compete in this tournament given his injury. The Spanish teenager will probably try to focus more on the Sunshine Double to have good runs in both Indian Wells and Miami.
