Marin Cilic wins the decisive match of what was a historic weekend for the Croatian tennis that won what many consider to be the “last Davis Cup.”
In fact, from next year the competition will have a complete overhaul in his format, a format that is completely disliked by most tennis players.
Back to the final, After Croatia got a decisive 2-1 lead, they had to win only 1 single on Sunday and that was done by Marin Cilic that dispatched Lucas Pouille 7-6 6-3 6-3.
It’s not every day you become a world champion
After the match, Marin commented
“It’s not every day that you become a world champion. For us it’s a dream come true, for this nation. You can see the fans are so passionate and they are here enjoying themselves. In Croatia it’s going to be incredible too.”
That was it and after so many emotions over the weekend, there is one thought going around. RIP Davis Cup.
