Kvitova gives the Fed Cup to Czech Republic

It’s Czech Republic once again!

Petra Kvitova & C. win the 3rd title in 4 years (after 2011 and 2012) to confirm they are the strongest team around.

The final wasn’t as dramatic as forecasted. The Czechs proved too be too strong for the German team also for the support of the local crowd in Prague.

Petra had to play the decisive match against Angelique Kerber after her team gained a decisive 2-0 lead (see article). The match was incredibly nervous with both players incapable of being solid behind their serve (there were 14 breaks in total). Both players squandered important advantages in all sets. In the first Kerber wasted a 5-2 lead to lose at the tie break; then it was time for Kvitova to squander a 3-0 in the second set to lose 6-4. In the decider things didn’t change: Kerber was leading 4-1 to lose 5 consecutive games and lose the match 7-6 (5) 4-6 6-4.

With this result the Czech Republic wins 3-0. Germany doesn’t win the Fed Cup for 22 years (1992) when Steffi Graf gave the trophy to her nation against Spain.

Petra: It was an amazing match

Kvitova commented “It was an amazing match and I’m just glad I did it. It was up and down from the beginning of the match and I had to fight for every single point. Maybe I was just lucky in the end. We will celebrate now.”

My beautiful teammates
