Fed Cup. Czech Republic close to title

Czech Republic is rather close to win its 3rd title in 4 years.  The 2011 ad 2012 champions didn’t have any problem in the first singles to concede no sets to their opponents.

Lucie Safarova defeated Angelique Kerber 6-4 6-4 in the first match. The Czech was 2-4 down to win 4 consecutive games in both sets (Angelique should not be very happy about that).

In the other match Petra Kvitova conceded just 6 games to Andrea Petkovic to win 6-2 6-4. Petra wasn’t ever really in trouble in this match to win the opener after grabbing a decisive 5-1 lead. The only awkward moment for the Czech was the second set when she lost the first game on serve. From that moment on it was only about Petra.

Kvitova commented “I was nervous but so was Andrea and I was trying to capitalize on that. It was not the first time and I have experience to play like that. I’m just glad I did everything well.”

Czech Republic now leads 2-0 and they just need 1 point to win the Fed Cup… that is definitely going to happen.
