Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz are in a battle for the top spot in the rankings, with Djokovic earning more points from major competitions than Alcaraz.

Novak Djokovic And Carlos Alcaraz

Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz keep battling for the top spot in the rankings. There is a rather curious situation that may materialize in the following days. If Carlos Alcaraz wins the Rio Open this week, he will have the same points as Novak Djokovic (6,980). However, in that case, the Serbian legend will retain the top spot in the rankings.

The rule

If two players are tied on points in the rankings, the player whose ranking is made up of more points from the mandatory events will take the lead. The Grand Slams, ATP Finals, and Masters 1000s are the biggest events on the calendar. And in this regard, Djokovic is ahead of the teenager, earning 5,820 points from major competitions compared to the world No. 2’s 5,090.
