Serena Williams survives a very tough Caroline Wozniacki in the Singapore semis. The Dane had a great start to win the opener 6-2 in just 26 with Serena incapable to counter her friends.
In the second set the American found her range to break Caroline twice in the 5th (3-2) and last game (6-3). Eventually the match went to a very tough decider. Serena broke Wozniacki in the 9th game (5-4), but she failed to hold serve in the next one. The duo went to a dramatic tiebreak. Wozniacki grabbed a 4-1 lead, but then she failed to win the next two points on her serve to eventually lose 5 consecutive points (6-4 for Serena). The American didn’t convert any of the following match points. Eventually the tiebreak went on a 6-all score line and it was just about who had more inside… off course that was Serena. The final score was 2-6 6-3 7-6 (6).
Caroline loses the match even if she scored more points (91 vs 87). Match Stats
Serena: Thanks so much Singapore
The American was absolutely elated by her win “I just kept thinking, ‘Well, if I lose I get to go home, but if I win I get to stay in front of this amazing crowd. I heard so many fans out here today, and after I lost the first set you guys got so behind me, and that’s the only reason I pulled through, so thank you so much Singapore.”
Serena will play the final against Simona Halep that has trashed her 6-0 6-2 in the 2nd match of the round robin. Time for revenge?
