Emma Raducanu is currently ranked number 80, and according to the entry list, she would be expected to play the qualifications in Indian Wells to access the main draw. However, the organization of the event has just announced that the 2021 US Open champion received a wild card for direct access to the main draw. Emma would be the alternate number 3 and therefore be expected to access the main draw anyway without playing the qualifications. Nevertheless, awarding the wild card may give a boost to the event, given Emma’s popularity.
