The Australian Open in 2023 was played by Novak Djokovic despite having a three-centimeter hamstring tear. The tournament director, Craig Tiley, revealed this in an interview with SEN Sportsday in Australia. It is “difficult to believe,” according to Tiley, that a 35-year-old player with this condition could compete at Djokovic’s level, and he did not hold back from calling the Serb’s accomplishments “extraordinary.”

“The guy that I saw had a one-inch tear in his thigh. Honestly, I saw the scans; the doctors will tell you the truth,” Tiley commented. “There was a lot of speculation as to whether it was true or not. It’s hard to believe that they could deal with this type of injury the way they could.”

It’s impressive that he handles things like this so professionally. Novak has a lot of his problems because he has a bad reputation. But at the end of the day, I don’t think anyone can question his athleticism.”
