Elena Rybakina hit the headlines loud and strong last summer after winning Wimbledon. However, after players from Russia and Belarus were banned from playing in SW19, the WTA and the ATP decided not to award any points for playing in Wimbledon.
Following this policy, Elena is not even ranked in the top 20. However, she is now no.16 in the live rankings. Curiously, if she also wins the Australian Open (she is in the quarterfinals right now), she will be ranked only 8 or 9 with 2 majors under her belt. If the Wimbledon points were assigned, she would be No. 2.

The big question now is… Will Wimbledon allow Russian/Belarussian players to compete in 2023? pic.twitter.com/PX8htfKkTs

Ranked world no.25, Elena owns an overall 5-2 record in 2023. Rybakina is playing at the moment at the Australian Open where she conquered the world no.48 Elisabetta Cocciaretto 7-5 6-3, the world no.104 Kaja Juvan 6-2 6-1, the world no.11 Danielle Rose Collins 6-2 5-7 6-2 and the world no.1 Iga Swiatek 6-4 6-4.
She is also scheduled to play in Abu Dhabi (Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open) after Abu Dhabi. The main draw will start on the 6th of February.
