No luck for Belinda Bencic that eventually had to bow to world no.62 Alison Riske in the Tianjin final.
The Swiss had the opportunity to be the youngest player to win a title since 2006, but eventually the American was too good. Alison had a great week not to drop a single set in the entire tournament and she conceded just 1 game to rising star Zheng Saisai in the semifinal.
Riske didn’t have too many problems to edge Belinda Bencic. The only awkward moment was ehn the American was a about to squander a 6-3 4-1 lead. At that moment Belinda won 3 consecutive games to bring the set to a 4-all score-line, but then the Swiss lost a decisive service game at the very end of the match. The final score was 6-3 6-4.Match Stats.
Riske: It’s a huge accomplishment for me
“It’s a huge accomplishment for me to win my first WTA title and I was here by myself, which made it even more special, just to know that I was able to do it by myself.
I hope I can keep up the momentum and try to compete every week as best as I can.”
