Pliskova wins Linz after epic against Giorgi

Karolina Pliskova wins her 3rd career title in Linz after beating Camila Giorgi in the final.

The world no.30 had hard time against the Italian that was still chasing her first career title.  After losing the first set at the tiebreak, Karolina stormed in the second to grab a decisive 4-0 lead that eventually brought the match to a tough decider.

The third set was a sheer epic. The Czech got a 5-1 lead to then lose 5 consecutive games and face a match point. After saving that match point Karoline brought the decider to the tiebreak that Pliskova won at 4. The match ended 6-7 (4) 6-3 7-6 (4). Match Stats

Pliskova: I thought I would have cried

Karolina commented “It could have been a little easier, but I’m still happy I won the title. After I was 5-1 up and she came back and had match point, I was already thinking I would lose, and that I would cry afterwards! But she was playing so well in that part of the third set. Before that she was making so many mistakes, but she stopped doing that and calmed down, and she played so much better there. Before the match I knew it would be hard because she hadn’t lost a set all week.”

This is Pliskova’s 3rd career title, the second of the season after Seoul (see details). Camila Giorgi has reached her 2nd career final after losing in Katowice to Alize Cornet
