Camila Giorgi, Karolina Pliskova to clash for the Linz title

Camila Giorgi is again 1 step away from winning her first career title. The Italian has lost this year the final in Katowice to Alize Cornet in 3 dramatic sets and now she has another shot at her maiden title.

Camila had a great run in Linz to get to the final without dropping a single set. The semis against her compatriot Karin Knapp was rather smooth with the exception of the beginning of the second set when Giorgi was 0-2 down. From that moment on it was only about Camila that won 6 consecutive games to finally win 6-4 6-2. Match Stats

The Italian commented “The last few weeks weren’t very good, but now I’m getting the momentum back. In the final, I’m going to focus on my game and try to dictate. I will prepare like any other match.”

Camila will face Karolina Pliskova in the final. The Czech is having a great year with 1 title (Seoul)  and 3 finals (Hong Kong, Nurnberg and Pattaya). See details.

Karolina has dropped just 1 set in the tournament and that was in the semifinal against world no. 94 Anna-Lena Friedsam (the final result was 2-6 6-3 6-3). Match Stats

The final

Camila and Karolina have played each other only once and that was this year in Dubai (qualifications) when Karolina won 7-5 6-2. This time it seems that the Italian is the favorite. SEE PROGRESSIVE RANKING H2H

Pliskova commented “She can hit so many winners, and there’s nothing you can do about it. Our previous match was very close. I will need to serve well.”
