Federer, Djokovic to clash for world no.1

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic will play a blockbuster semifinal in Shanghai. The outcome of this match will definitely have a huge impact on the year end rankings.

THE WORLD NO.1 RACE

In fact, Nole leads Roger of 1.630 points in the Year to Date Rankings, so if the Serbian defeats Roger and then he wins the tournament it is almost game over for the Swiss. Conversely if the other scenario does materialize (Roger defeats Nole and then he wins the Shanghai title), the Swiss will have a huge shot at becoming the new world no.1 for 2014. Roger’s chances will be boosted by the fact that Djokovic should take some time off for the birth of his first child to possibly not playing in Bercy and London.

FEDERER

Roger got to this semifinal defeating Benneteau in straight sets in the quarters (7-6 (4) 6-0). Roger’s tennis was rather impressive especially in the second set when he served the bagel to Julien. Roger lost just 3 points on is first serve (34/37) to fire 11 aces. The Maestro has conceded no breakpoints to the Frenchman. A very important point is that the match lasted just 69 minutes, so Federer should not struggle too much with his energies in the semifinal.  Match Stats.

After the match The Maestro commented “I thought I played very well against Bautista Agut, but maybe tonight was a bit better. Especially once I got in the lead, it’s nice to have those great 10, 15 minutes where you can stretch it, really. That’s what I was able to do. So this probably was my best match so far.”

DJOKOVIC

Nole had a great match against David Ferrer (6-4 6-2). David’s problem against Djokovic is that the Spaniard plays just like Nole, but the world no.1 is just much better at doing it. So unless Nole is not at his best, we can’t see Ferrer beating him. Match Stats

Nole commented “Roger is one of the best players ever in the game. He loves playing big matches. He knows how to play here. He also has big support. It’s just a big challenge. There is no clear favourite. I think every time we play against each other, it’s a thriller. We need to bring our A game in order to win.”

HEAD TO HEAD

Head to Head is 18-17 for Federer. Impossible to pick up a favorite, probably we can go with Djokovic.
