Novak Djokovic had a rather convincing start to his Australian Open campaign after dismissing world No. 75 Roberto Carballes Baena 6-3, 6-4, 6-0. Novak Djokovic played a fantastic match despite his well-known hamstring injury.
There were some doubts about the reception that Novak Djokovic could have received in Melbourne after his controversial 2022 deportation from Australia. Nevertheless, the fans were absolutely elated and on fire to see the Serbian champion. Novak was visibly emotional during the on-court interview.
“Thank you for giving me such a welcoming reception that I could only dream of,” said Djokovic. “I feel really happy that I’m back here in Australia and on the court, where I have had the biggest success in my career.
“Definitely, this court is the most special court in my life, and I couldn’t ask for a better start to the tournament.”
