After winning the Australian Open first round, Camila Giorgi was compelled to defend herself against claims that she tried to purchase a phony Covid vaccination.
Giorgi defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-0, 6-1, to advance to the second round of the first grand slam of the year. However, back in his native Italy, a doctor is being investigated after Giorgi allegedly went to her in search of fake documents proving that he had received all of the required vaccinations.
The Italian No. 5 then competed in the 2022 Australian Open, when participants had to obtain a visa by showing proof of vaccination against Covid-19, a requirement that resulted in Novak Djokovic’s contentious deportation.
During the press conference that followed her first-round match, Camila commented: “I just did all my vaccination in different places. So the trouble is hers. Not me. So with that, I’m very calm.”
Talking about the doctor that made the allegations, Camila added: “I did vaccination with different places, and this needs to be very clear because it’s a big thing they say all around, and it’s not my problem. It’s her problem.”
