Daria Kasatkina hit the headlines all over the world when she came out as lesbian, disclosing that she has been dating her girlfriend, Natalia Zabiiako. Kasatkina criticized her nation’s invasion and war in Ukraine in a number of interviews that were posted on YouTube in July. She also bravely came out as a lesbian at the same time. She continued speaking despite being aware of the risks involved and the possible repercussions at home, calling the war a nightmare and denouncing her nation’s treatment of homosexuality.
Despite the significant danger, Kasatkina believed it was worthwhile. She gave an explanation of why she keeps speaking out, despite the fact that it prevents her from seeing her family, in a small interview room in Melbourne Park on Monday.
“It’s very tough. And it’s been almost a year living in these circumstances. I want this to end as soon as possible, but unfortunately it’s not depending on us. They’re my friends and I want to show them love and support because it’s very tough. For them, it’s more difficult,” said Daria.
“For most people, it’s important to have the support of family, of friends. It’s been tough because … my friends, my family, they couldn’t travel, first because of Covid, then the war.
It’s difficult that I cannot see the people I love, often. Actually, I can see them almost never. I didn’t see my father for two years. But it is what it is. It’s life, unfortunately. I have to say thanks that it’s not a worse scenario. I’m just happy they’re healthy and I have them,” she added.
Daria recently published the following post, happy with her girlfriend Natalia.
