Nick Kyrgios was hopeful to have a fantastic campaign at the Australian Open but he was not even able to start the tournament. Nick had to withdraw from the competition because of a knee injury.
During a press conference, Nick shared his feelings: “I’m devastated obviously. It’s like my home tournament. Honestly, I’m just exhausted from everything, and obviously pretty brutal. One of the most important tournaments of my career. It hasn’t been easy at all.”
Nick Kyrgios decided to have his physiotherapist during the press conference, probably to confirm that he has a “real” injury.
According to Kyrgios’ physiotherapist Will Maher, Kyrgios’ left knee’s meniscus has been bothering him for a few weeks due to a cyst. Therefore it made sense for him to withdraw from the tournament.
“It’s not a significant injury in the sense that it’s going to be career-threatening or anything like that,” Maher said. “The situation now is we wanted to prevent him from having a further injury or making that injury worse. The prognosis is good and he’ll be fine. We just go back to work and make sure everything is fine for him and we go again.”

Ranked no.21, Nick played his last match on the 6th of October 2022 when he defeated world no.95 Kamil Majchrzak 3-6 6-2 6-2 in the 2nd round in Tokyo (draw).
At the moment, during this season Nick has a composed 37-10 record.
