Bad news for the WTA finals as Serena Williams will probably skip them.
Serena has been coming from an odd season. She was as successful as ever (well a bit less than 2013) to win 6 tournaments and 1 slam (see details). But something odd happened. In Wimbledon she retired from double because of an unspecified illness (see article); in Wuhan she retired for a viral illness; In Beijing she retired in the quarters because of an injury to her knee (see article)
Serena: I do not think it’s smart to play
Now Serena has doubts about her participation at the WTA finals in Singapore “I don’t think it would be smart for me to play in Singapore, it’s just the way I feel. I will however wait and see how it goes”.
Serena is meant to go to Europe to have a look at her knee; it seems unlikely she will play. Angelique Kerber (no.9 in the Year to date Rankings) may take full advantage of it.
