Novak Djokovic is finally back to play in the Australian Open after the terrible saga that saw him being deported from the country in 2022 because of his vaccination status. There are some question marks about the reception that the former world number 1 will receive during the Australian Open.
At this year’s season-opening Grand Slam, the Australian Open organizers will not tolerate any booing of Novak Djokovic or any of the other competitors; anyone found guilty of such behavior will be expelled from Melbourne Park. The Memorial Drive Tennis Centre and the rest of South Australia gave the 21-time Grand Slam champion a warm welcome as he competed in the Adelaide International 1 last week.
There are concerns that he may receive a different reception at Melbourne Park during the Australian Open the following week, but longtime event director Craig Tiley has a warning for anyone planning to jeer Djokovic and company over the coming two weeks.
“If they disrupt the enjoyment of anyone else – boom, they are out,” Tiley said in an interview with the Herald Sun. “We don’t want them on site. They can stay away, or we will kick them out.”
