Troicki: from doping to beating Ferrer

Viktor Troicki probably wins one of the most important matches of his career. The Serbian had to stop for 12 months after suffering from a very controversial ban (doping). The tricky stuff was that Troicki had to start from the very beginning as his ranking went south (no.847). This means that Viktor had to play all sorts of challengers (from the qualifications) to get back to an acceptable rank. Troicki is still ranked no.174 (rather far from his no.12 career high), but he is on the right track.

Today the Serbian made a giant leap (especially for his own confidence) to beat world no.5 David Ferrer in straight sets in Shenzhen (6-3 6-4). Match Stats

Troicki: I do not want to stop here

Viktor is now full of confidence to comment “I don’t want to stop here. I think I’m playing good. I’ll go match by match and try to enjoy it as much as I can.

David is a great fighter, a great player. He always gives his best. It’s amazing to beat him because I’ve never had a chance before. This was maybe a better surface for me, but it’s great to beat him. It’s special for me.” he added

Next vs. Giraldo

Troicki will play Santiago Giraldo for a place in semifinals. Head to head is 1-0 for the Colombian, but probably Troicki is the favorite to get to the final 4. His confidence is really sky high.
