Tennis legend Martina Navratilova revealed on Monday that she has been diagnosed with breast and throat cancer. The International Tennis Hall of Fame member and 18-time Grand Slam singles champion said in a statement that her prognosis is good and that she will begin treatment this month.
She claimed that while watching the season-ending WTA finals in Fort Worth, Texas, in November, she noticed an enlarged lymph node in her neck. A biopsy later revealed that she had early-stage throat cancer. Navratilova claimed that the unrelated breast cancer was found while she was having tests on her throat. In 2010, Navratilova received a noninvasive breast cancer diagnosis, leading to a lumpectomy.
Martina commented: “This double whammy is serious but still fixable, and I’m hoping for a favorable outcome. It’s going to stink for a while, but I’ll fight with all I have got.”
All the best!
