It was time to move on, according to Novak Djokovic, who acknowledged on Thursday that being expelled from Australia was a memorable experience. He was very happy to be welcomed with open arms in Adelaide.
The Serbian star, who will attempt to win a men’s record-tying 22nd Grand Slam title at the Australian Open next month, returned to the nation on Tuesday, nearly a year after being expelled following a legal battle for refusing to get vaccinated against Covid-19.
Djokovic commented: “It’s one of those things that sticks with you, stays with you for, I guess, the rest of your life. As I said, it’s something that I’ve never experienced before and hopefully never again.
But it is a valuable life experience for me and something that will stay there, but I have to move on. Coming back to Australia speaks to how I feel about this country, how I feel about playing here.”
Novak Djokovic decided it to kick-start the new season by playing the ATP250 in Adelaide, which will be staged the next week.
