Coach Patrick Mouratoglou has officially joined Holger Rune’s team at the end of last season with fantastic results. Rune, a 19-year-old who defeated Novak Djokovic in the Paris final, won his first Masters trophy. After his victory in Paris, Rune entered the top 10 for the first time in his career and attained a career-high world ranking of No. 10.

According to Patrick Mouratoglou, Holger has a chance to become the world’s best player in 2023. Patrick commented: “World No 1 next year, is that realistic? Why not. When you can do what he did, anything is possible. Now, it’s going to require him to be able to perform as he did in Bercy, all year long, and especially in the Grand Slams and in the Masters 1000, where it counts the most.”

Patrick added that the target of becoming the world number 1 in 2023 is not so unrealistic for Holger, even if he conceded that it is extremely difficult to obtain. “So it’s not going to be easy, obviously, but if it were easy to be the best in the world, we’d know already. Is that realistic? It’s not unrealistic. It will be extremely difficult, but it is not unrealistic,” added the Frenchman.

In the off-season, Rune stated that his two main objectives for 2023 are to win a Grand Slam and to be ranked number one in the world. Mouratoglou, who collaborated with Rune during the indoor season, believes that Rune is entirely committed when he says that he will do everything in his power to achieve those objectives in 2023.
