Venus Williams seems to be more than determined to have a full run during the so-called Australian summer that will end with the Australian Open. The American legend has already been awarded a wildcard for the main draw of the Australian Open. She received another one to compete in the WTA250 that will take place in Auckland from the 2nd of January.

Venus won the title in Oakland in singles in 2015. “I’m looking forward to playing my first tournament of the season in Auckland. The tournament and fans always make me feel welcome, and I’m excited to compete there in January,” commented Williams.

Emma Raducanu, Sloane Stephens, and Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin are the other Slam winners in the field in addition to Williams. She competed at the ASB Classic for the first time in 2014, losing to the world No. 2 at the time, Ana Ivanovic, before taking home the title the following year. In her final appearance in 2019, Williams reached the quarterfinals after competing in 2016 and 2017.

The qualifying rounds for the ASB Classic women’s competition took place on December 30 and 31. According to the organizers, several days of the two-week ASB Classic are already fully booked.
