Carlos Alcaraz had a rather tricky end to his 2022 season after suffering from an abdominal injury. The Spanish sensation could not play in the ATP Finals, and he had to focus on recovering for the last few weeks without putting too much attention on improving his tennis. Carlito had a rather disappointing run at the current Mubadala World Tennis Championship, where he was blown away in both of his matches against Andrey Rublev (d. 6-2, 6-1) and Casper Ruud (d. 6-1, 6-4).

Carlito and his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, decided not to play in any official tournaments before the Australian Open to focus on his preparation. “I decided to sacrifice the tournaments from the start of the year to focus on the big one. That’s why I’m just playing Kooyong. The focus is on getting better and be ready,” said Alcaraz.
