Daria Kasatkina and Karen Khachanov are facing a rather uncharacteristic threat. A member of the 8th State Duma named Roman Teryushkov recently disclosed that he had petitioned the Russian Ministry of Justice to designate Kasatkina as a ‘foreign agent,’ depriving her of various privileges in her own nation.
Teryushkov said he resented his request to have Kasatkina blacklisted after his initial appeal to the Russian Federation was denied.
On her telegram channel, Daria Kasatkina sarcastically commented: “How nice to have fans from the State Duma.”
In addition, Daria Kasatkina’s fellow Russian tennis players Karen Khachanov and former World No. 1 Yevgeny Kafelnikov were attacked by lawmaker Roman Teryushkov for their opposition to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which started in March of this year.
“Kasatkina, Khachanov, Kafelnikov openly criticize the actions of the Russian authorities, permanently residing outside the territory of the Russian Federation, act in a neutral status [without the Russian flag and anthem], demonstrating to the whole world distancing themselves from the NWO and Russian society. Their actions fall under the law on foreign agents,” Teryushkov stated.
