Stefanos Tsitsipas had a rather peculiar year. The Greek sensation ended the season ranked number 4 after winning “only” 2 tournaments in Monte Carlo and Majorca. Stefanos finished the season ranked so high because he was extremely consistent in having deep runs in many tournaments. He was the runner-up in the ATP1000 in Rome and Cincinnati. He also reached the finals in Rotterdam, Astana, and Stockholm. Tsitsipas was also the semifinalist at the Australian Open, the ATP1000 in Madrid and Paris and in Acapulco.

Talking to ATP Tennis Radio Podcast, the Greek sensation highlighted how important it is to gain ATP points.

“I look at things such as finals, how many I was able to play this year, how consistent I am as far as going deep into tournaments and if I’m able to go deep in those tournaments. If I’m able to constantly, week-after-week, being able to be there, this is a good sign for me of improvement,” he said commented.

“So far, I’ve had a lot of wins in a short period span, and it’s looking good, and I want to keep generating that, keep adding to the ranking, keep adding to my profile as an individual,” Tsitsipas said. “It’s a very satisfying feeling. I always want to add more, whether it’s points, whether that’s wins, whether that’s anything. Whatever benefits me and my career.”

Nick Kyrgios vs. consistency

Australian player Nick Kyrgios has a completely different point of view. Nick has recently criticized the ATP Rankings for promoting consistency over form and skills. Kyrgios is well known for not playing during the entire calendar, often skipping the clay-court season.
