Nick Kyrgios has always said that he does not like playing on clay and also despises competing at the Roland Garros. The last time Kyrgios competed at Roland Garros was in 2017, when he lost to Kevin Anderson in the second round. Since then, he has participated in nearly all other major tournaments outside of France but consistently avoided what he once referred to as “the worst Grand Slam of all.”
Nevertheless, the Australian player may end his absence from the French Open in 2023. Apparently, he is keen on going to Paris following a request from his girlfriend Costeen Hatzi.
When in Saudi Arabia, Kyrgios revealed: “Yes, I’m playing the French Open. My girlfriend wants to see Paris, so why not? It will be good for me to earn some more money.
I’ve played well on clay, I’ve beaten Federer, Wawrinka, and I’ve played a final on clay [in Estoril 2015], but usually at that time of year, I like spending time at home. Because if I don’t, then I’m travelling for eight months a year, it’s too much. But she hasn’t seen Paris. So why not?”
