Novak Djokovic: ‘I fell in love with tennis by accident’

This is how Novak Djokovic started to be interested in tennis

Novak Djokovic is one of the most successful tennis players in history. At a press conference held in Marbella in collaboration with Asics, his equipment provider, Novak Djokovic recalled how he first started playing tennis despite no one else in his family being an avid player. Novak confessed that he started playing tennis only by accident because no one was really playing the sport.

Everything started when they built 3 tennis courts just in front of the restaurant that was run by his family. When he was just 4 or 5 years old, Novak was curious to see what that sport was. That is how his fairytale started.

“Sometimes I remember why I started playing tennis when I was a kid,” Novak said. “No one had made a sound before me in my house. Tennis was not our sport in the family. So I fell in love with this sport by a kind of accident.”

Then he added: “They built three tennis courts in front of the restaurant my family ran, 15 meters away. I was four or five years old and I was curious, I was interested, I watched them and I even helped the workers. I then asked my parents to tell me about this sport, I started watching it on television and I asked them to buy me a racket. That’s how it all started.”

After a rather tricky season, Novak Djokovic will commence his run in 2023 by playing the ATP250 in Adelaide. As per the other years, the Serbian sensation is committed to winning as many a slam and important titles as possible.
