Ashleigh Barty retired from professional tennis almost 1 year ago playing her last competitive match on the occasion of the Australian Open final that she won against Danielle Collins.
Ashleigh Barty is the first individual to have received the Newcombe Medal 5 times, which is the highest individual honor in Australian tennis. Since it was first given out in 2017, Barty, 26, has taken home the prize every year. In 2018, she shared it with ATP player Alex De Minaur, and in 2021, she did so with former wheelchair No. 1 Dylan Alcott. (There were no awards in 2020 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.)
Ashleigh commented: “I stand here very proudly knowing that I absolutely fulfilled every ounce that I could to this beautiful sport that brought me so much more than I could have ever dreamt.”
