Nick Kyrgios criticizes the rankings system saying it doesn’t reward skills and form

Nick Kyrgios explains why he does not like the current ranking system

Nick Kyrgios And The Rankings

Nick Kyrgios had a relatively good season finishing 2022 ranked number 22. However, the Australian player was penalized because the ATP did not award any points to Wimbledon after the exclusion of players from Russia and Belarus. The Tennis Channel posted an interesting analysis showing that according to an “alternative” ranking system (UTR), Nick Kyrgios would have been ranked number 2 after Novak Djokovic.

Nick is well known for not playing full-time on the ATP tour and therefore he “loses” a lot of points. For example, Kyrgios is used to skipping the entire clay-court season because he does not like to play on that surface.

For this reason, the Australian player conveniently criticizes the ranking system saying that it helps people with consistency and does not reward skill and form.

“I have said it before. The current ranking system is based on consistency and how much you play. Not skill and form,” he wrote.
