According to Michal Samulski, Matteo Berrettini has committed to competing in Stuttgart on grass, where he won the title in 2022. Matteo was in fantastic form on grass during the last season after winning Stuttgart and the ATP 500 at the Queen’s Club. Unfortunately, the Italian sensation was not able to play in Wimbledon after testing positive for the coronavirus.
Due to the pandemic, the Stuttgart tournament was postponed in 2020, and Berrettini did not participate in the tournament in 2021. Berrettini made an impressive return to Stuttgart this year. After having surgery on his right hand in March, Berrettini started playing on the grass in Stuttgart, where he had not many expectations. After he won the title he commented: “It is unbelievable. It was obviously a goal, but I thought it would be really, really tough. I don’t even think I played my best tennis, but that is why I am even more proud of myself. Mentally I was really tough.”
