Ajla Tomljanovic had a good year ending ranked no.33. The Australian player was nominated for the prestigious Newcombe Medal. The 29-year-old has the chance to win the top individual award in Australian tennis for the second time since 2019.

In a career-best season, Tomljanovic won five matches against  top20 players, including a first-round upset of world No.5 Anett Kontaveit at Roland Garros.

She also defeated two Wimbledon top-20 seeds, making history by becoming the first Australian woman in 20 years to advance to back-to-back quarterfinals at the Championships. At the US Open, Ajla ended Serena Williams’ professional career as part of a career-best run to the last eight, making more history.

Tomljanovic became the first Australian woman in 43 years to make it to the quarterfinals of both the US Open and Wimbledon in the same year.

“It feels special to be nominated for the Newcombe Medal. I’ve had my best year to date, and this is just a little reminder and reward for the hard work that’s been put in over a long period of time,” commented Tomljanovic.
