The ATP tour has established the initial lists of nominees for the end-of-season awards to be given to the tennis players who have distinguished themselves the most over the previous 12 months. Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal and Holger Rune are among the top players who have received the nominations.
Comeback player of the year
The player who overcame a serious injury and restored his status as one of the top ATP players is named “comeback player of the year.”
The nominated players are Borna Coric, the Austrian former winner of the US Open Dominic Thiem, the Swiss Stan Wawrinka and Wu Yibing.
Most improved player of the year
This is the player who has shown an ever-improving level of performance throughout the year and who has attained a significant best ranking by the year’s end.
The nominated players are Chosen Carlos Alcaraz, Maxime Cressy, Jack Draper and Holger Rune.
Newcomer of the year
The winner will be the Next Gen player who had the biggest impact this season and broke into the top 100 for the first time in 2022.
The nominated players are Carlos Alcaraz, Maxime Cressy, Jack Draper and Holger Rune.
Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award
The chosen player will be the athlete who displayed the highest degree of professionalism and integrity throughout the entire year, competed against his teammates in the most fair manner possible, and helped to grow the game through his activities off the court. The nominated players are: Carlos Alcaraz, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Rafael Nadal, Casper Ruud and Frances Tiafoe
Coach of the year
The nominations are Juan Carlos Ferrero (Carlos Alcaraz), Frederic Fontang (Felix Auger-Aliassime), Goran Ivanisevic (Novak Djokovic), Michael Russell (Taylor Fritz) and Christian Ruud (Casper Ruud).
Carlos Alcaraz in 2022
LWWWWWWWWW Now ranked no.1, Carlos played his last match on the 4th of November when he had to retire when playing against world no.11 Holger Rune in the quarter and the scoreline was 6-3 6-6 .

Rafael Nadal in 2022
Now ranked no.2, Rafael played his last match on the 17th of November when he defeated world no.3 Casper Ruud 7-5 7-5 in the round robin in the Nitto ATP Finals (draw).
At present, during this year the Spaniard has achieved an overall 39-8 win-loss record. The Spaniard has won 4 titles in 2022 in Melbourne, Australian Open, Acapulco and French Open. Rafael was the runner-up in Indian Wells.
Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal played each other 3 times. Their current head to head is 2-1 for Nadal. Previously, the last time they fought against each other, Carlos Alcaraz won 6-2 1-6 6-3 in the quarter in Madrid (Mutua Madrid Open) on the 6th of May 2022.

Holger Rune in 2022
LWWLWWLLWW Now ranked no.11, Rune played his last match on the 6th of November when he overcame world no.5 Novak Djokovic 3-6 6-3 7-5 in the final in Paris to win his 3rd career title.
This year Rune has a 50-27 win-loss record. Holger has won 4 titles in 2022 in the Sanremo Challenger, Munich, Stockholm and Paris. The Dane was the runner-up in Sofia and in Basel.
