US Open: NO comeback title for Martina!

Martina Hingis was eager to win another slam in doubles. The Swiss legend reached a slam final after 12 years and she was really close to her 10th slam in doubles. That didn’t happen.

Martina was partnering with Flavia Pennetta to be well positioned to win the final against Makarova and Vesnina after winning the opening set 6-2. Then the Russian team fought back to win at the decider 2-6 6-3 6-2.

Martina: It was an incredible journey

The former world no.1 was still very happy to comment “It was an incredible journey. Flavia and I teamed up in the middle of the season and two months later we’re here in the final of the U.S. Open. Just really enjoyed every moment to be out there.”

Makarova commented “Definitely, it was so amazing. I’m just so happy. It was a great two weeks for me.”
