Matteo Berrettini gives bad news to team Italia as the world number 16 will not be able to compete at the upcoming Davis Cup. Matteo did not recover from an injury that occurred during the ATP250 in Naples back in October. Therefore, with Jannik Sinner also injured, Lorenzo Musetti will be the Italian no.1.
Why Berrettini cannot play and his foot injury
This was Berrettini statement (translate from Italian).
“Hi guys, unfortunately the foot injury won’t allow me to play in the Davis Cup finals. Personally, playing for Italy has always been and always will be a great honour, which is why it was so difficult to make this decision.
However, I decided to go to Malaga with the team to give my contribution off the pitch too!
