Stefanos Tsitsipas lost yet another tough match on Friday when he played against Andrey Rublev for a place in the semi-finals of the ATP season’s finale. The Greek ace was in full control of the match, at least for the first set and a half, when things started to unravel. Stefanos looked frustrated with his parents, who were just arguing in his box. At a certain point, he was unable to contain his frustration and he threw a ball at his box.
Courier vs. Tsitsipas’s mom and dad
It is not the first time that it has become obvious that Stefanos is not coping well with the presence of his father and mother in his player’s box. During an interesting talk for Tennis Channel, tennis legend Jim Courier said he was not happy seeing that Tsitsipas’s parents are just hurting their son.
“My main takeaway from this is a little bit of a feeling of empathy for Stef Tsitsipas. Things that are out of his control are impacting him. His family, they’re so invested in his success. They want so much for him, they want to help him from the sidelines, but they’re just hurting him. And it’s hurting his chances to play good tennis,” said Courier.
“You saw how he threw his serve away with two double faults [in the third set]. He got lost in the match when his parents started jawing at each other. I just feel for the kid. Because Stef seems like a good guy to me, and he’s said time and time again he doesn’t want the input from the bench. But they give it to him anyway.”
Stefanos Tsitsipas in 2022
At the moment ranked no.3 (career-high), the Greek played his last match on the 18th of November when he was overcome by world no.7 Andrey Rublev 3-6 6-3 6-2 in the round robin in the Nitto ATP Finals (draw).
Until now, during this year Stefanos achieved an overall 59-24 win-loss record. Tsitsipas has won 2 titles in 2022 in Monte-Carlo and Mallorca. Stefanos was the runner-up in Rotterdam, in Rome, in Cincinnati, in Astana and in Stockholm.
