Marin Cilic had a terrible 2013. The Croatian was banned for doping after a controversial sentence (see article). During the ban Marin worked hard to keep his fitness and he managed to stage a great comeback. Now ranked no. 16 Cilic has just reached his first slam semifinal and he is going for more.
Cilic had a great US Open so far to even beat world no. 7 Tomas Berdych in straight sets 6-2 6-4 7-6 (4). Match Stats.

Referring to his terrible 2013, Marin commented “It feels amazing. I’ve had tough times the past couple of years. I’m really happy that things are working out with my team. It’s paying off, especially in the past few months. I’m just enjoying my time on the court.”
The semis vs. Federer
Marin will play Roger Federer for a place in the final. Head to head is 5-0 for the Maestro that has recently defeated Cilic in Toronto with a tough 7-6 (5) 6-7 (3) 6-4. Roger is still the favorite, but beating Berdych in straight sets will be a great boost of confidence for the Croatian.
