Novak Djokovic had a very rough start to the year when he was deported from Australia after being detained. In a lengthy interview, Annabel Croft expressed her displeasure with Novak Djokovic’s treatment. Annabel thought that the former world number 1 was not treated fairly.
“I didn’t like the way Novak Djokovic was treated this year. I think the whole thing was handled in a disastrous way. It’s unfair that he couldn’t play in the Australian Open and the US Open. The outbreak of war in Ukraine has complicated the situation for Russian and Belarusian tennis players, making 2022 one of the most tumultuous years in tennis history.”
What happened in 2022
Novak Djokovic has had multiple troubles this year as a result of not being vaccinated against the Coronavirus.
The Serbian veteran could not play two majors, the Australian Open and the US Open, as well as all the ATP1000 Masters in the US. The former world number one watched his long-time opponent Rafael Nadal expand the all-time Grand Slam record with victories at the Australian Open and Roland Garros. The 35-year-old Belgrade native has won Wimbledon for the 7th championship in his career, and the fourth time in a row. Nole has so equaled his idol Pete Sampras and climbed to 21 Majors, just one behind Nadal.
