Tsitsipas explains how he improved his serve-and-volley so much after beating Medvedev

Stefanos Tsitsipas And His Serve And Volley

Stefanos Tsitsipas won a fantastic match against Daniil Medvedev on Wednesday in what was his second encounter at the ATP Finals. Given the position of Daniil Medvedev on return (too far back), the Greek player used his serve-and-volley a lot and the execution was just great. Stefanos hired Mark Philippoussis in his coaching team. The Australian legend is an expert on how to serve and volley. When asked how he improved this part of the game, Tsitsipas said it was about having a smoother serve and a simplified volley. He said:

“I have improved my serve over the course of the last few years. I think that is the reason why I am able to do that a bit more comfortably and with confidence. I come to the net much smoother and more relaxed on the serve, which in the past, I believe was slightly different, the more the match went through.

I would say the serve. The volleys, I put a lot of work in, simplifying it without swinging too much. It has helped me to be consistent and find the right spots when I come in.”
