World no.18 Ekaterina Makarova surprises the tennis community reaching a great semifinal at the Flushing Meadows
The Russian has achieved this feat without even dropping a set in the entire tournament and beating top players such as Genie Bouchard and now Vika Azarenka.
The match against Vika wasn’t even that bumpy for the Russian that had a rather easy life especially in the second set after Azarenka imploded. The match ended 6-4 6-2.
Makarova: Today it was a tough match
Ekaterina commented “Of course I’m happy that I came through, finally through the quarters and I’m in the semis now. Today was a great, tough match. We played so many times, she beat me and I beat her, so it was a tough one.”
Next vs. Serena
Ekaterina will play Serena Williams in the semifinal. Head to head is 3-1 for Serena that is definitely the favorite for the final.
