Being a tennis player from Russia is quite tricky nowadays. Andrey Rublev and Daniil Medvedev played against each other today in Turin in their opening match of the ATP Finals. Both players were discriminated by Wimbledon, which banned the presence of all tennis players from Russia and Belarus following the horrible invasion of Ukraine.
Maybe ask elite Russian players to take a strong stance against Putin’s regime. However, it’s also pretty clear that taking a strong position against Putin would almost for sure cause huge trouble.
Andrey Rublev has always professed his feelings against the war. After beating Daniil in a rather thrilling contest when signing the camera, he wrote “Peace, peace, peace all we need.” He could not be more expressive than that.
