Carlos Alcaraz was not able to compete at the current ATP Finals in Turin because of an abdominal injury. The Spanish sensation is still at the top of the rankings and he can still lose his position to Rafael Nadal and Stefanos Tsitsipas. However, Carlito’s chances to retain his world number 1 ranking increased after Rafael Nadal lost to Taylor Fritz in his opening match.
The only solution now for Nadal or Tsitsipas to snatch the first place in the rankings from Carlos Alcaraz is to win the Finals and Stefanos needs to do it without losing a single match. Tsitsipas’ chances seem to be quite slim also because he is in a rather tough group with the likes of Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, and Andrey Rublev. Before his first match, Nadal could become no.1 if he reached the final in Turin without losing a match.
