Emma Raducanu could not play the Billie Jean King Cup because of a wrist injury. That does not mean she hasn’t a great relationship with the tennis legend who gave her name to the competition.
Billy Jean King posted a lovely message on social media wishing a happy birthday to Emma, who has just turned 20. In her message, Billie Jean reminded everyone that Raducanu is the only tennis player in history who has won a Grand Slam title starting straight from the qualifications. That happened in the 2021 US Open and on that occasion Emma won 10 consecutive matches without dropping a single set and without conceding more than 4 games per set.
